Where munchkins come from
The munchkin is a relatively young breed. Its modern history began in the United States in the 1980s, and international recognition followed gradually through the 1990s and 2000s. The breed is named after the little inhabitants of the Land of Oz.
Where the short legs come from
Short legs are the result of a natural genetic trait that is passed down from parents to kittens. Leg length can vary within a litter: some kittens are born with standard-length legs, and that's perfectly normal.
How it affects a cat's life
- Munchkins run fast and love to play just as much as any other cat.
- They don't jump quite as high, so they appreciate steps and shelves at different heights.
- Their personality is most often described as sociable and curious.
