How Much Does a Munchkin Cat Cost in Ukraine in 2026?
Munchkin kitten prices in Ukraine, October 2026: catteries, lapa.shop and OLX. What drives the price, what it includes, and how to avoid pet scams.
Published 6 min read

In October 2026, a munchkin kitten with papers from a Ukrainian cattery typically costs between 1,300 and 2,300 US dollars or euros, roughly 60,000 to 120,000 hryvnias. A kitten sold with breeding rights costs more than a pet-only kitten. Listings for a few thousand hryvnias do exist, but they are usually adult cats, kittens without papers or questionable offers.
Murtown prices
Murtown is a small home cattery in Dnipro. As of 28 October 2026, our munchkin kittens page lists prices in US dollars:
| Option | Price |
|---|---|
| Pet only, no breeding rights | $1,300–1,500 |
| With breeding rights | $2,000 |
For example, the same female kitten is $1,500 as a pet and $2,000 with breeding rights. Prices can change, so check each kitten's own page for the current price and for what has already been done for that kitten.
Market prices we found on 28 October 2026
| Source | What we saw |
|---|---|
| lapa.shop munchkin catalogue (catteries in Ukraine and elsewhere in Europe) | Most kittens about €1,300–2,250 plus delivery; a few cheaper offers |
| OLX Ukraine, Animals → Cats → Munchkin | 152 listings; first page ranged from 50 to about 117,000 UAH, median around 20,000 UAH |
| Sweet Beast, a cattery in Zhytomyr (WCF club) | Prices in US dollars, separate pet and breeding prices; the most expensive kittens with breeding rights up to $1,800 |
| Murtown, Dnipro | $1,300–1,500 as a pet, $2,000 with breeding rights |
OLX prices fall into three groups:
- Under 5,000 UAH: 12 of 41 listings on the first page. These include adult cats (for example, a 2.5-year-old cat for 1,000 UAH), token prices of 50–100 UAH, and offers that need especially careful checking.
- 13,000–25,000 UAH: mostly private sellers. Many list the breed alongside others ("munchkin scottish", "british"), so ask separately about papers and parentage.
- 68,000–117,000 UAH: mostly cattery kittens, including rare colours such as golden or silver chinchilla.
What affects the price
- Pet or breeding rights. Pet kittens are usually sold on condition of spaying or neutering; breeding rights cost more. In the example above the difference is $500.
- Papers and registry. A kitten registration certificate, followed by a pedigree, proves parentage. Munchkins are registered by WCF and TICA clubs. FIFe does not register the breed at all, as its breeding rules state explicitly, so a "FIFe pedigree" for a munchkin is a warning sign.
- Leg type. Short-legged kittens are the most expensive. Normal-legged kittens from the same litters are usually cheaper, as the lapa.shop catalogue notes. We explain where they come from in why munchkins have short legs.
- Coat and colour. Longhaired kittens and rare colours usually cost more; the highest OLX prices are for chinchilla colours.
- Sex and age. Some catteries price males and females differently, especially with breeding rights. Adult cats being rehomed usually cost far less than kittens.
- Parents and health checks. Infectious disease tests and vet checks for the parents cost the breeder money and are built into the price. Some sellers offer tests for the kitten at extra cost.
- Vet preparation. Age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite treatment, a microchip and a pet passport.
- Delivery. On lapa.shop it is paid separately from the kitten's price; at Murtown, transport to another Ukrainian city or abroad is arranged individually when you book.
What the price includes and what you pay later
What is included depends on the seller. Most often it covers age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite treatment, a pet passport, a microchip, a registration certificate or pedigree, and a contract; some sellers even include spaying or neutering in the pet price. Delivery is usually extra. At Murtown, each kitten's page lists what has been done for that kitten.
After the purchase come regular costs. Guide prices from two veterinary clinics in Dnipro (October 2026):
| Service | Approximate price |
|---|---|
| First general vet consultation | 360–500 UAH |
| Kitten vaccination | from 750 UAH |
| Combined vaccination, adult cat | from 950 UAH |
| Microchipping | 440 UAH |
| Neutering a male | 1,000–1,450 UAH |
| Spaying a female | 1,100–2,650 UAH |
You will also need good food (munchkins do best on measured meals so they stay slim), litter, a low-entry litter box, scratching posts, steps or ramps to the sofa and bed, a carrier and toys. Prices vary by city and clinic, so check with your own vet.
Red flags
- A price far below the market, especially with promises of a pedigree and show quality.
- A demand for prepayment to a private person's card before any video call, plus pressure such as "someone else is taking the kitten tomorrow".
- Refusal to show the kitten, with its mother, on video or in person.
- No contract, or reluctance to put terms in writing.
- A "FIFe pedigree" for a munchkin.
- The same photos and text in listings from different cities.
Ukrainian police regularly report cases like these. In one early-2024 case from the Ternopil region, a buyer sent 6,000 UAH as prepayment for a puppy and the "seller" vanished. Police advise not rushing to pay large sums, checking the seller carefully, asking to see the animal on a video call, looking for reviews, checking the phone number and being wary of the cheapest offers.
How to buy safely
- Meet the kitten in person or on a video call: ask to see it move, play and eat, and to meet its mother.
- Check the papers: the registration certificate or pedigree (which club and registry), the pet passport with vaccination records, and the microchip number, which must match the passport.
- Sign a written contract covering both parties' details; the kitten's name, date of birth, colour and chip number; the price; pet or breeding rights; spay or neuter terms; what happens if a congenital condition is found; and the handover date and method.
- Make the deposit a proper «завдаток». Under the Civil Code of Ukraine (Articles 570–571), if the deal falls through because of the buyer, the seller keeps this deposit; if it fails because of the seller, the seller returns it and pays the same amount again. If the document does not say explicitly that the payment is a «завдаток», it is treated as an ordinary advance. So the word, the amount and the terms should be in the contract or a signed receipt, and it is best paid only after a video call and checking the seller.
- At handover, examine the kitten again, collect all papers and the signed contract, and ask what food it has been eating.
These rules apply to any seller, including us.
FAQ
Why are munchkins so expensive?
The breed is rare and not recognised by every association, and the short-legged kittens most buyers want make up only part of each litter. The price also covers the parents' care and health checks, vaccinations, the microchip, papers and club registration.
Can I buy a munchkin cheaply?
Normal-legged kittens, pet-only kittens and adult cats being rehomed cost less. But a price several times below the market with no explanation is a reason to check the seller especially carefully.
What is the difference between a pet kitten and one with breeding rights?
A pet kitten is bought as a companion, usually on condition of spaying or neutering. Breeding rights allow its offspring to be registered with a club and cost more: in the examples we saw, from a few percent to about a third above the pet price.
Are normal-legged munchkins cheaper?
Usually, yes. They are kittens from munchkin parents that did not inherit the short-leg mutation; under the WCF standard they may be used for breeding but not shown.
What is usually included in the price?
Most often age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite treatment, a pet passport, a microchip, a registration certificate or pedigree, and a contract. Delivery is usually paid separately. Always confirm the exact list for the specific kitten.
